Monograms

I love to create monograms! They are such fun and a challenge, especially a three letter monogram. Here are two commissions from earlier this year.

Each of these were created for wedding invitations and is something the happy couple can use for their entire married life. Now that's getting some bang for your buck. 

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

This canvas was created for the local "Miss Wonderfully Made" pageant. The pageant was held as a fundraiser for the VandeVuss' mission trip to South East Asia.

The theme of the pageant was based on Psalm 139:14.

"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. Psalms 139:14 NKJV"

Time for Study

As I am sure it is for everyone, this year is speeding by for me. There have been oh so many projects this year; spring seems to energize everyone! So many times, I thought, I need add this project to my blog. Then, of course, time slipped away and the task of sharing in the blog remained undone.

Now as things slow down and I catch my breath, I hope to share some of those projects. But first a brief look at a current study.

"WISDOM is the perfect RELATIONSHIP between BEGINNING and END."

This statement came from reflection of a A.W. Tozer quote, "Wisdom sees everything in focus, each in proper relation to all, and is thus able to work toward predestined goals with flawless precision."


These three pieces are a quick outpouring of the meditation on that particular thought.

(As I lay down thoughts and create different calligraphic studies, I will be adding them to my etsy shop. 

Maybe the concepts and ideas will resonate with someone else as well.)

Large Scale

The month of October presented me with an opportunity to work large scale. I was asked to create artwork for a youth event. There were 5 large canvases ranging from 5'x8' to 8'x10' that would be the backdrop for the stage. Luckily I have access to a shop area that I could work on these all at the same time  with minimal rearranging as I worked.

Also, there were 5 canvas assemblies that had been created. These were to be painted to hang separately and would fit together as one piece of art on the last night. Each assembly shape and background colors were predetermined and brought to me before I began. The main message was written on the large central canvas and the small secondary canvases utilized text as texture. Each lay out is different and independent. But each assembly had the swirling imagery as a central theme. I had only 8 days to create the canvas assemblies so there was not a lot of layout and decision making time. Which turned out to be a blessing for me. I seem to overthink and overwork if time allows. 

This was such a great project to work on! I have come to realize that I love working large. Ok maybe not the 5'x10' large, but the canvas assemblies were a blast! I have also realized that I love working on canvas. I will be pursuing this in the future. 

Unfortunately, the picture quality is not great and I did not get a photo of the canvas assemblies in their final configuration. 

Card for the Ladies

I recently completed the Beth Moore study 'Breaking Free'. I would recommend it to anyone interested in living out Truth in their life and breaking away from the mindset that holds you back. At the end of the study I made these cards for all the ladies that had completed the course with me.

The verse was written in sumi ink with a Leonardt Hero 40 nib, scanned into

Photoshop and color was added there. 40 cards were printed in total. 

The word TRUST was hand embossed on each card. 

The stencil was created from hand lettering on bristol board.

Journal Pages

My journal art is quite a bit more casual than my 'serious' work. But I enjoy it just as much! It gives me an outlet to try different color schemes, to enjoy creating with no expectations, and to letter without worry of messing up.
